I intended to create a text art piece with quotes from the novel The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. The quotes discuss that love is not an abstract force independent of the person who loves. Instead, love is shaped by the character, morality, and nature of the lover. Roses are often symbolic of love. A rose, once picked, is no longer free—it exists solely for the pleasure of the one who possesses it. Similarly, a beloved often becomes an object in the lover’s gaze. The loved one becomes a "thing" to be admired, much like a rose in a vase.
