Self-Portrait

2022
Watercolor on paper
55×75 cm

This piece illustrates my happy childhood memories through references to popular movies and books that I enjoyed when I was little, like Harry Potter and Hayao Miyazaki’s movies, and images of personal memories, such as braiding bracelets and having birthday parties. I hope the symbols evoke connections to viewers who might share similar memories. I chose watercolor because it can achieve a watery and blurry appearance that makes the objects in the painting seem as if they are alive and moving, mimicking how memory is inaccurate and diverges from reality.
