Tell Me Everything
Tell Me Everything is a speculative interface exploring simulated care, where emotional labor becomes cheap, immediate, and commodified. The work examines the toxic effects of emotional capitalism, in which intimacy is framed not as a relationship, but as a service.
Though tools like ChatGPT are marketed for productivity, many people, including myself, use them for emotional support and entertainment. They offer instant response and reassurance without the messiness or vulnerability of dealing with another person in real life. Popular AI chatbots engage with whatever the user brings to the table, providing what appears to be a safe and non-judgmental space to express concerns. But does the AI's response offer real understanding or connection? Or is it simply a reflection of the user's own energy, mindset, and intent—designed to keep them happy at all times?
The vending machine serves as a metaphor for the fast, cheap, predictable, and completely transactional relationship between humans and AI chatbots. The "intimacy" we feel with AI is, more often than not, a one-way psychological projection rather than a genuine relationship.
