The Murder was inspired by discussions about the high rate at which health insurance companies deny patient claims. These actions hold the power to end lives, as permitted by a broken healthcare system. The exploitation of human suffering for profit is often justified or normalized under the guise of "business," with such actions framed as necessary for the proper functioning of society.
The voices in this piece were drawn from real stories shared in Reddit discussion panels, where individuals described their own experiences—or those of their loved ones—with insurance companies denying coverage for serious illnesses. I extracted these texts and used text-to-speech AI to bring them to life, imagining how these voices might sound in real life and selecting voice models that best represented them. By collaging these voices into a dynamic soundscape, I aim to create a space where these personal stories are heard—where grief and anger are not only acknowledged but given form.
