Whip
2024Rope, black paper, legos, ultrasonic distance sensor, servo
25*25*6 inch
As viewers step closer to or farther from the drawing machine, the rope “whips” across the paper, drawing a bird like shape. By stepping closer or farther, viewers literally set the rope’s rhythm, whipping it into motion, and in doing so must continually negotiate their own position relative to the machine—and to each other. The shared canvas becomes the trace of these whip-like gestures, visualizing how individual impulses, when modulated by proximity, can reverberate across a communal space.
